Anne-Marie trained at Arts Educational Trust and completed all R.A.D examinations. She featured in the BBC children's television series 'Playaway', her first professional engagement. She went to New York in the seventies, dancing with leading choreographers, acting in off-Broadway plays, and working as a free-lance choreographer. She taught Ballet, Jazz, and Graham and Horton-based Contemporary Dance. An injury introduced her to Robert Fitzgerald and the Pilates Method in 1975. She went on to train and work with Fran Lehen. Returning to England in 1985, Anne-Marie worked with Alan Herdman for six years. Since then, she has been directing her own centre, Pilates and Yoga Movement, acting as a consultant for children's television, the Shobana Jeyasingh Dance Company and the Royal Ballet School. Anne-Marie's knowledge of yoga derives from thirty years of study with various teachers - in particular, Mary Stewart, who trained her. Anne-Marie is one of the founders of the PILATESfoundation UK Ltd, and is a member of the Teachers' Training Committee established to raise and maintain high standards of teaching. Her principal contribution was the setting up of the PILATESfoundation teachers' training accreditation. Pilates and Yoga Movement aims to prevent injury and maintain optimum health for each student. These goals can be obtained both through Yoga and Pilates. Classes are adapted to individual needs.. Anne-Marie stresses that Pilates is a method - not just a collection of exercises. |
